Enabling SMS - Basics

Clinic-Assist automates standard communications such as appointment confirmations which by default are sent via email.

You also have the option to enable the premium add-in service of SMS – the sending of text messages.  With this option enabled, reminders will automatically be sent to patients 48 hours prior to their appointment.  SMS is disabled by default since it carries an additional cost overhead. To configure SMS, select ‘Setup’ from the Settings menu.

Click on the ‘Advanced’ tab.

Tick ‘Enable SMS’

Now when you save an appointment as pending, the automated communication options increase, making the SMS window visible beneath the email confirmation.

So long as a mobile phone number is detailed on the patient account, you will also be able to send the confirmation as a text message.

You can keep track of your monthly SMS spend at any time by clicking on the ‘About’ option from the bottom right of the screen.   This will show the additional information of ‘SMS Cost:’

Though Clinic-Assist allows you to send text messages, included in the message will be a reference to Clinic-Assist as the sender. This is because we provide these services to you via our global 'Clickatell' account.

If you would like to use your own service through which to manage financials and enable your own branding and customisations, you will need to create your own Clickatell account and configure your payment plan.   This is detailed in the article ‘Enabling SMS – Extended’.
